Hear us out… we totally get what pregnancy is like! Sometimes it’s just survival mode and you just eat what you can keep down, hello jatz crackers... and the cravings!
I craved chocolate ice cream with my second pregnancy and ate a bowl every night. It’s all about balance, right? Zero judgement or guilt inducing comments around here!
Buuut there is something wonderful about filling your growing body with nourishing food! It’s often about having simple swaps, something slightly healthier but still super tasty. We aren’t promising that these will take the place of your hot chip craving, but here are four nourishing and tasty snack ideas to try! Ps. And no, you don’t have to have a baby bump to enjoy these!
Dates are scientifically proven to be beneficial for pregnant women and can bring on labour. The saying is “6 dates a day!” leading up to birth. Dates are full of fibre, antioxidants, and natural sugars that can give you a bit of an energy boost (which is helpful for that pregnancy fatigue.) I definitely don’t think I would naturally reach for a handful of dates but these fancy dates are a game changer! A perfect pick me up… without the processed sugar of say, a bowl of chocolate icecream.
Medjool Dates (These are larger and softer than regular dates)
All Natural Peanut Butter (We love Mayver’s Super Natural Crunchy Peanut Butter)
Dark Chocolate (We use Lindt 70%)
Sea Salt Flakes
Edamame (soybeans) are a perfect snack if you’re craving something filling and salty! They are packed with protein, folate, and Omega 3s. Edamame is found in the freezer section and so easy to prepare. Just steam them for 4 minutes and sprinkle with sea salt! Delish!
This is such an easy option when you’re craving something sweet and cold! Greek yogurt is packed with calcium and probiotics. It’s so simple to make and the options are endless!
We went with pistachios, strawberries, and a drizzle of dark chocolate on the top.
When you just need an easy, quick-grab option, loaded corn thins are your answer! They are filling and there’s so many topping options. It’s also a great option for those mamas who have faced morning sickness and need something a bit easier on the tummy.
Here’s our fave go-to options!
Tomato & Cream Cheese
Spread cream cheese on corn thin. Add thinly sliced tomato. Top with sea salt and cracked pepper.
Peanut Butter & Banana
Spread natural peanut butter on corn thin. Top with banana slices and drizzle with honey.
